How to use other
database, such as SQL server, Oracle, etc?
- Prepare an empty database of your
database, such as SQL server, Oracle, etc.
- Go to "Control panel/ODBC",
add a data source to this empty database. Making sure you
having enough rights.
- Launch WinRadius, set the
ODBC name to the data source name at "Settings/Database...".
- Click "Advanced/Create
Radius Table" to create radius tables.
- Restart WinRadius. That's
all.
WinRadius asks for a ODBC username
and password, what shall I do?
- If you are using your own database,
please just input the username & password of your
database.
- If you are using WinRadius.mdb,
username is "admin", no password. If you
still cannot login the database, please create a new WinRadius.mdb
file and replace the old one with MS ACCESS, and then
restart WinRadius to use this new database file.
- You can also solve this problem by
configuring the username & password at "Control
panel/ODBC". For SQL Server, you shall choose
"Use Trusted Connection" when you
create ODBC data source.
- You can also solve this problem by
inputting "yourOdbcName;Uid=yourUsername;Pwd=yourPassword"
at "ODBC Name" field of "Settings/Database...".
WinRadius got no LOG, what shall I
do?
- If the configuration of your NAS is
correct, WinRadius will be sure to display some LOGs. If
you got no log, that's to say, the configuration of your
NAS is wrong.
- Make sure your NAS can reach
WinRadius via network.
- Make sure your NAS' configuration
is correct, especially IP, port, secret.
- If you are still failed, please contact
with us.
WinRadius says OK but NAS fails, what
shall I do?
- Make sure your NAS' configuration
& WinRadius' configuration is correct, especially the
secret.
- Make sure the computer that
WinRadius runs on has only one IP address.
- Make sure you have checked some
suitable option at "Settings/Authentication...".
- If you are still failed,
that's says your NAS need special response from Radius
server, please tell us what type of NAS your are using
and send us a detailed LOG of WinRadius. If you can send
us a copy of the datasheet of your NAS, it will shorten
our customizing time for you.
- For some special NAS, you need to
configure some special settings, please go here for more details.
How to bind your user
to telephone number or MAC address?
- Fill the telephone number or
MAC address to "Address" field of the
user when you add users.
- Check "'Calling number'
must be ..." at "Settings/Auth.../Security".
- If you want bind a user to more
than one telephone number or MAC address, you can input
"number1, number2, ..." to "Address"
field of the user when you add users.
How to speed your Radius server?
- You can know how many logon/second
that your system supports by clicking RadiusTest's "Performance
test" button. WinRadius supports 100
logon/second on the computer (P4, 1.5M Hz, 128 MB).
- You can check less LOGs at "Settings/Logs...".
- You can use better computer to run
your database.
- Here is a sample hardware
requirements for you:
| Type
of organization |
logon/second |
Hardware
configuration |
| Small
to medium-sized organizations with less than 1000
users |
1 |

| Large
organizations with 50,000 users |
10 |

How to generate month report?
- Query the billing information at
"Operation/Query...".
- Export the result to XML file at
"Operation/Export result...".
How to configure
WinRadius with mySql?
- First, please make sure that you
are using mySql ODBC driver v3.51 or later, and add your
mySql database as an ODBC data source whose name must be
the same as the one of "Settings/Database...".
- Then, Please use "Advanced/Create
Radius tables" to create RADIUS tables.
- Please choose "This
database supports forwardOnly" at "Settings/Database..."
and restart WinRadius.
How to assign an IP address to a
specific user?
- Please set the IP address, such as 192.168.0.123,
at "address"
field when you insert new users.
- Please check "Response message includes 'Framed-IP-Address'" at "Settings/Authentication/Basic...".
- Please check "Use 'address'
field as 'Framed-IP-Address'" at "Settings/Authentication/Security...".
How to configure VoIP billing system?
- Please choose suitable legs at
"Settings/Authentication.../VoIP"
because different VoIP NAS may send different legs to
Radius server. For example, you can always choose the the first leg.
- You can add many billing rates to WinRadius at
"Settings/Accountings.../Based on Time". For example, 001=30/60
means that the calls to USA/Canada (001) will be charged at 30 cent per 60
seconds; sales->001=30/60 means that the billing rate 001=30/60
will only be applied for the users of sales group. Here, empty
called number means all called number, for example, sales->=30/60
means all calls will be charged at 30 cent per 60
seconds for the users of sales group.
- For many kinds of NAS, you may need to enable
"Called-Station-Id is in the start record" at "Settings/Authentication.../Security".
If my NAS shutdown, how WinRadius
process the activated sessions?
- If your NAS supports
Interim-Update, please set Acct-Interim-Interval
to a number (>600) at "Settings/Authentication/Basic".
Thus, WinRadius will stop the activated sessions when Acct-Interim-Interval
expired.
How to use WinRadius for 802.1x?
- You shall choose IEEE 802.1x and choose MD5-Challenge
as EAP type. Thus WinRadius will use 802.1x to authenticate the
WLAN users.
- Please enable "Response message includes 'Framed-IP-Address'" at "Settings/Authentication/Basic...",
and enable your Access Point to support DHCP.
- Please configure the DNS, Gateway at your Access
Point or clients.
How to use WinRadius for saving h323 CDRs to database?
- Just go to "Settings/Logs"and
enable Save VoIP logs to database. Thus,
WinRadius will save h323 (VoIP) CDRs to database.
What kinds of authentication method does a W-LAN client
support?
- Here is a table that may be useful for you:

Why 1645, 1646, 1812, 1813 port is not usable?
- Some Windows OS will always occupy those port
number, so please try other port number, such as 2812, 2813, etc. Please
make sure your NAS use the same port number.
Why did my computer code change without any hardware
changing?
- The computer code is banded to your network adapter.
If you add/remove a network adapter, such as PPPoE adapter or VPN adapter,
your computer may be changed. So not add/remove a network adapter on the
RADIUS server computer.
